A glass of red wine a day keeps the doctor away. Find out how red wine helps improve health!
Red wine has antioxidants that may help prevent heart diseases by increasing high-density levels of lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the “good” cholesterol) and protect against artery damage. The antioxidants in red wine, polyphenols, may help protect the lining of the blood vessels, reduce low-density lipoprotein LDL cholesterol (the “bad” cholesterol) and prevent blood clots. Here are some reasons to drink up on your red wine.
1. Lower cholesterol: tempranillo red grapes are used to make certain red wines and may have a significant effect on bad cholesterol. Participants who consumed the same grape supplement found in red wine saw that their bad cholesterol levels decreased by 9 percent. Participants with high cholesterol experience a 12 percent drop in bad cholesterol levels.
2. Protect your heart: Polyphenols, the antioxidants, in red wine can help keep the blood vessels flexible and can reduce the risk of unwanted clotting. Moderation with red wine is key, too much alcohol can damage the heart.
3. Control blood sugar: the skin of the red grapes contains resveratrol can help diabetics regulate their blood sugar. Participants who took 250 mg of resveratrol supplement once a day for three months had lower blood glucose levels than those who didn’t take a supplement.
4. Boost your brain: resveratrol may also help keep your memory sharp. Resveratrol hampers the formation of beta-amyloid, a plaque found in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients.
5. Fight off a cold: antioxidants in red wine can help keep you healthy. A study done in 2010 found among 4,000 faculty members at five Spanish universities, those who drank 14 weekly glasses of wine a year were 40 percent less likely to get a common cold. The antioxidants in the red wine are believed to fight infections and protect cells against the effects of free radicals, which can play a role in cancer and other diseases.
6. Stop cancer: the resveratrol in red wine you would get from drinking three to four times a week can be enough to starve cancer cells.
7. Get slim: Piceatannol, a chemical compound found in the body converts from resveratrol that comes from red wine. This compound is found to block the growth of fat cells. Researchers say that piceatannol binds to the insulin receptors of the fat cells, blocking the pathways necessary for immature fat cells to grow.
8. Jazz up dinner: you don’t have to limit yourself to drinking the red wine. You can add red wine in your foods by cooking it in as a sauce or as an ingredient.
9. 9 Improves dental health: the antioxidants polyphenols found in red wine can slow bacterial growth in the mouth and prevent cavities.
10. Promote eye health: moderate red wine drinker are 32 percent less likely to develop cataracts than non-drinkers.
