10 Home Remedies for Stomach Bugs
1. Ice
When the going really gets rough, even water will be a challenge to get down – but hydration is crucial. You can try taking itty-bitty sips of water, but sometimes just sucking on ice chips works. Woohoo, ice! When your stomach is up to it, you can try any of the teas listed below, which will add more water to your system; other natural options include clear broths, coconut water or watermelon juice.
2. Fennel seed tea
Fennel seed is a favored ingredient for treating stomach ailments; particularly gas and stomach cramps which will most likely be accompanying your virus. Mix a teaspoon of fennel seeds with one cup of boiling water; cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain, add some honey if you like, drink (up to three times a day) on an empty stomach.
3. Chamomile tea
Chamomile has been used as a traditional medicine for millennia to soothe frazzled nerves, as an aid against insomnia and to settle whacky stomachs. While there hasn’t been a lot of western science to back up these claims, all of chamomile’s traditional health benefits are well-suited for someone suffering from a stomach bug; worst case scenario, you get hydrated.

4. Thyme tea
Experts note that the volatile oils in thyme give it carminative (gas-reducing) properties, while its phenols work as an antispasmodic – so it both relieves gas and cramping. Mix one teaspoon of dried thyme leaves with one cup of boiling water; cover and let steep for 10 minutes. Strain, add some honey if you like, drink (up to three times a day) on an empty stomach.
5. Peppermint
The essential oil in peppermint contains menthol, a volatile substance that is said to have an antispasmodic effect on the smooth muscle of the digestive tract. The herb’s power to relax intestinal muscles makes it a great option for many things stomach-related from symptoms of indigestion to heartburn, gas and nausea. The University of Maryland Medical Center recommends steeping one teaspoon of dried peppermint leaves in 1 cup of boiling water for 10 minutes; strain and drink 4 to 5 times per day between meals. (You can use commercial peppermint tea bags too, of course.)
6. Yogurt
Once your appetite has returned, turn to some plain yogurt with active cultures. It is drab enough that you should be able to get it down the hatch, and your stomach will appreciate the replenishment of good bacteria after all that it’s been through.
7. Electrolytes
The stomach virus can cause the deficiency of minerals from the body. So the drinks containing the electrolytes will be helpful. This will help to compensate the minerals deficiency from the body.
8. Caraway Tea
Take one spoon of caraway seeds in a cup of boiling water and cover it. Keep it aside for 10 minutes. After that, strain it and the tea is ready. You can add a pinch of honey in it. This will help in the stomach virus. You can have this tea thrice in a day.
9. Garlic
Garlic has the antibiotic property which will help in stomach virus. It protects the bacterial flora in intestine naturally.
10. Lemon
Lemon is rich in vitamin C which will help in increasing the immunity. One spoon of lemon juice with one spoon of sugar and a pinch of salt can be mixed with a glass of water. This will definitely provide relief to the patient.
