Who hasn’t felt the unfortunate effects of food poisoning? I have a friend who never eats out for fear of getting it. A bit extreme I think because she’s missing out on the social interaction with friends or family. That being said, you can get food poisoning at home. Have you ever heated food incorrectly or not defrosted meat thoroughly?. Food standing out for ages at picnics and buffets are classic ways of getting food poisoning. In case you have never experienced it, this is what to expect.
What exactly are the symptoms of food poisoning? Well, they can be obvious (vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea) and occur within an hour or two after eating; however, the effects of a foodborne disease can also be more subtle such as a fever or abdominal cramping and pain. In mild cases, food poisoning will resolve on its own. On the other hand, if you see lasting or more significant symptoms such as blood in your vomit or diarrhea, see a doctor.
The first remedy is well documented for many illnesses. But is particularly useful in the case of food poisoning. I recommend you have at least two of these remedies available. Don’t get caught short!
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is the most popular natural choice for curing food poisoning fast. Pathogens such as salmonella are very sensitive to acids(1) and apple cider vinegar has natural antibiotic qualities.
Here is what two users over at Earth clinic had to say
“My wife was writhing on the bathroom floor in agony with food poisoning when I got home last night – 10 pm. Huge debilitating stomach cramps, eventual vomiting, cold/hot sweats and tingling hands. Slippery elm and psyllium husks precipitated vomiting, which was cleansing, but the excruciating pain and cramping did not settle until two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar had been ingested. Second vomit was nearly dry retching, so stomach was virtually emptied. This was followed by another two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar. Now nearly midnight – she settled and slept with a full recovery by morning. Thank you apple cider vinegar and all those who led me to the remedy”.
“I can assure you that water and vinegar are excellent at knocking out food poisoning, one of the fastest remedies around. I use 3/4 cup water, 1/4 cup apple vinegar (usually stronger than most) if available or any vinegar if not. The ascetic acid in the vinegar kills the pathogens that are making you sick in a very short time period, faster than antibiotics for me. Usually witin 2 hrs you are good to go. I always use vinegar and oil on salads when traveling in developing nations, and eat the salad last so the vingar has time to penetrate the lettuce and veges and it will knock out Ecoli, Salmonella, etc., within 20 min and you will not get sick.”
How to take it:
- Just mix two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a cup of hot water and drink it
- Alternatively, you can drink two to three teaspoons of undiluted apple cider vinegar.
