Breast Milk Facial Anyone? – Bizarre New Beauty Trends Coming this Summer

BREAST MILK FACIALS

They are already big news in the US and the quirky facials could well be coming to the UK.

Mud Facial Bar in Chicago is to offer clients the skincare treatment, boasting that the milk can help to soothe conditions such as eczema thanks to its anti-bacterial properties.

The 30-minute ‘Breathe’ facial costs $40 (£27), with breast milk as a $10 (£6.70) additional option.

Spa owner Shama Patel says she was inspired by ‘mummy blogs’ that advise using breast milk to treat skin conditions.

Human breast milk has a lot of antibodies in it that helps fight infection, and since acne is an infection of the skin, that is one that it helps fight,’ Patel told Daily Mail Australia.

‘Additionally, it helps with sun burn, eczema, wrinkles and making the skin’s overall appearance smoother.’

The spa purchases the milk from a local certified milk bank, where the donors are screened, though asked if mothers could use their own breast milk for their facial, Patel said that ‘if mothers want to use their own milk, I don’t see why we can’t meet that request.’

The beneficial properties of lauric acid, found in breast milk, are reported to fight bacterial infection that causes acne.

If you want to reap the rewards of breast milk but do it from the comfort of your own home, a new moisturizer promises to help.

Environ offer a £34 ($54) Intensive Colostrum Gel to help address the problems of thinning skin as people mature.

The formulation is based upon nature’s first food, and promises to soothe, tighten, thicken and smooth skin. Its main ingredient is dairy colostrum – the pre-milk substance produced by female mammals during the first 24 hours of lactation – which apparently comprises powerful immune and growth factors, vitamins and minerals.

Natural anti-inflammatory agents found in colostrum provide an effective sterilising effect on spots, making it useful in treating problem skin.

Hope’s Relief, meanwhile, offer soaps and body washes containing goats’ milk. The brand say that the animal produce cleanses skin without irritating or stripping moisture or oils because the pH of goat’s milk is close to the skin’s own natural pH (5.5).
