Discover How to Regenerate your Immune System in 72 Hours
Fasting has often been suggested as a good method for boosting health and combating chronic conditions and diseases. Different lengths and types of fasts have been recommended, ranging from a few days to a full month. New research, conducted by the University of Southern California (USC), indicates that short fasts of no food, lasting only 72 hours, can already have a significantly positive effect on the body’s immune system. Moreover, elderly and patients with damaged immune system, such as cancer patients receiving conventional treatments, can also use them safely.
Research team asked the study participants to regularly fast between two to four days over a six-month period. The preliminary findings suggest that mini fasts of only 3 days kick start the immune system.
Valter Longo, Professor of Gerontology and the Biological Sciences at the University of California and one of the study’s authors, explains that fasting encourages stem cells to start proliferating and creating new white blood cells. These play an essential role in the body’s immune response and fight off infections.Fasting Turn On A Regenerative Switch
The process leads to complete rejuvenation of the immune system. A ‘regenerative switch’ is turned on and a new immune system is created. Furthermore, it seems that while fasting, the body also disposes of damaged and old parts of the system. Damaged immune cells are recycled to provide energy during the fast.
Professor Longo cautions that further clinical trials are required, but the initial results are very promising and could help certain groups of patients with weakened immunity. For example, cancer patients receiving chemotherapy could benefit from a short fast that they can manage and that is not harmful to them.
