For many years, coconut oil has been regarded as one of the most effective natural skin moisturizer, but there is a new sheriff in the beauty city known as Babassu seed oil. It has almost similar proportions of fatty acids as coconut oil, but it is more versatile when it comes to skincare when compared to coconut oil. So what is Babassu seed oil?

The Babassu seed oil has its origin from the Babassu palm tree fruits that are found mostly in Brazil. Babassu palm tree can grow for up to twenty meters tall and oils obtained from its seeds are being used as cleansing agent by soap industry. It is also widely used as a substitute for coconut oil. In the recent days, Babassu seed oil is establishing its name in skin care and beauty industry thanks to its moisturizing properties. It has been used for cooking purposes for decades. Its primary component is lauric acid, but it also has stearic, palmitic, and mysteric acids. It contains phytosterols and vitamin E that acts as the anti-inflammatory agents.

How is it made?

The Babassu tree fruits are mostly harvested from the month of August to November by the local women of Brazil popularly called Babassu breakers. They collect fruits that have fallen naturally on the ground and later break them using an ax hence the name. They get the flesh of the fruits and press them until a clear yellow vegetable oil comes out of them.
