The FDA Approves a Drug that Gets Rid of Your Double Chin
The FDA has recently approved a drug that will get rid of you pesky double chin, and does it without surgery! The new drug, ATX-101, will be available soon, as promises amazing results.
ATX-101 is made of a combination of deoxycholic acid and naturally occurring molecules that literally melts away the “submental fat” that causes a double chin. Previously, the only way to get rid of this fat was to suck it out via liposuction. ATX-101 destroys the membranes of the fat cells, causing them to burst and get absorbed back into the body. The only side effects reported were short-term swelling, some pain, and bruising. In most cases the side-effects only lasted a few days, much faster than the recovery time for surgery.
The FDA’s decision for approval was based on 19 clinical studies involving more than 2,600 patients across eight years. Frederick C. Beddingfield, the Chief Medical Officer of Kythera Biopharmaceuticals, who developed the drug said, “”We are pleased that the FDA advisory committee recognized the importance of providing patients with a clinically-proven treatment option specifically developed to contour submental fullness, a much-cited yet under treated facial aesthetic complaint.”
All that ATX-101 needs at this point if for the FDA to make their final reviews before doctors can start administering the drug. That is believed to happen this year. Whether or not you are happy about another cosmetic drug being approved, you have to admit that nothing ruins a good selfie like a double chin…
