51 Surprising Benefits of Rosemary Essential Oil

Rosemary is a very popular well-known herb that has multiple uses for cooking and medicinal purposes. But there are many other benefits to using rosemary, most of which you probably never thought of.  I certainly didn’t. Sustainablebabysteps.com has listed a whopping 50+ ways to use rosemary. I like the idea that you can use it to calm the nerves. Also, did you know that rosemary is good for the memory. You just need to rub it and sniff. By doing so, rosemary, is proven to increase memory by up to 75%. I wrote a post about it some while ago here

Rosemary essential oil (Rosmarinus officinalis CT 1,8 Cineol – trying saying THAT 5x fast. Or just once, for that matter.) is a steam-distilled oil taken from the flowering plant. It smells like… you guessed it, rosemary! But much stronger than the plant, very herbaceous, and woody with “evergreen undertones”.

According to Modern Essentials, the properties within a quality brand of rosemary oil include:

  • Analgesic
  • Antibacterial
  • Anticancer
  • Anticatarrhal
  • Antifungal
  • Anti-infectious
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Antioxidant
  • Expectorant

It’s said to affect the immune system, respiratory system, and nervous system, as well as other benefits and uses (many of which are listed below). In addition to its many physical properties, rosemary is also said to have an affect on the memory, opening the conscious mind, and assisting in learning.

Emotionally and spiritually, these affects spell the potential for mental expansion, clarity, and insight, something that can be especially useful during transition and change. It helps us to process what’s happening around us and within us consciously, instead of burying it with distractions. In doing so it can create both a sense of trust in the process of Life, as well as confidence in our ability to navigate it with ease.

IMPORTANT NOTE ON QUALITY

The information provided here on the properties and uses of essential oils do NOT apply to all essential oil brands. Because of lenient industry standards and a lack of regulation on terms such as “natural” or “pure”, much of what you find at the drug store is not a therapeutic grade of essential oil and may lack real quality or even contain contaminants.
A LOT goes into creating a high quality essential oil. The best essential oil brands follow these guidelines:

  • Proper plant varieties
  • Grown in their indigenous region around the world
  • Grown without chemical pesticides, herbicides, etc
  • Harvested with precise timing to ensure peak properties
  • Extracted with proper temp and pressure to preserve oil molecules
  • Third-party testing of each and every batch
  • Stand behind the internal use of their oils
