Quinoa (KEEN-wah) is a delicious alternative to rice. Technically speaking it is not a grain but is a seed. It looks a bit like couscous and has a mild nutty flavor.
Quinoa is very nutritious and is known to have anti-inflammatory, anti-viral, anti-cancer and anti-depressant effects. It is also high in anti-oxidants and is a good source of iron, magnesium, vitamin E, potassium, and fiber.
If you gluten intolerant, quinoa is ideal for you. The only downside is that it is high in carbs, so you can’t eat it in abundance if you are on a low carb diet.
